   WHO AM I?

I started Dialogue Dilemmas as a podcast for my project in an unfinished Social Science MA program at California State University, Chico. I have since shifted to pursuing completion of a graduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, but we will see how things go.

My interest in the work of conflict & communication started with early training (read: as a teenager) in Nonviolent Communication and consensus decision-making. Shout outs to the now departed Chico Peace and Justice Center for hosting my first NVC study group (2006), and Butte College's Earth Peace Project (2005) for introducing me to consensus.

I have since dabbled in many other frameworks for collaborative, non-hierarchical conflict disentanglement. Many such approaches share underlying principles with NVC and consensus process, even if the terminology differs. Studying neurobiology and trauma has also enhanced my understanding of why accessing these skills can be so difficult, and the importance of working with our innate limitations as biological beings rather than against them.*

I have long desired to focus the skills of conflict disentanglement on the larger social structures within which we live our lives.* I've mediated conflicts at Occupy encampments, taught NVC workshops for activists, facilitated Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) circles about social & environmental problems, and hosted "Revolutionary Empathy" circles. Every project and endeavor I come up with is another iteration of my desire to enable us to access the win-win solutions I know are possible for us as humans, but are so elusive.

This website will (hopefully) reflect updates in the current iteration of these efforts. I have recently (as of summer 2024) left a position in the traditional workforce to re-focus on this calling, and am slowly ramping things up. Please check back regularly or better yet, each out, for updates and questions.
